Morawiecki: Agresja Władimira Putina to próba powrotu do mrocznych czasów

Zaledwie 30 lat temu narody Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej odzyskały wolność i nadzieję na lepszą przyszłość. Koniec komunizmu miał być początkiem nowej historii, historii pokoju i dobrobytu. Agresja Władimira Putina wobec Ukrainy to próba przekreślenia tych 30 lat i zapowiedź powrotu do mrocznych czasów.

ENGLISH VERSION

A little over 30 years ago, the nations of Central Europe regained their freedom and with it, the hope of a better future. The end of communism was to announce a new era of history – peace and prosperity for all. And yet Vladimir Putin’s recent aggression towards Ukraine threatens to unravel the last 30 years and heralds the return to a dark time. According to reports, a 150,000 strong Russian army stands at the borders of our friend and neighbour – Ukraine. This is neither a military exercise nor a strategic game. No. It is a threat of war, the kind of which the world has not seen in decades.

Vladimir Putin has thrown down the gauntlet not only to Ukraine but to the entire world. And it is we who will decide whether the attack can be repelled. This is a great test of our solidarity. We must witness to the fact that we stand united and that we will not allow the sovereignty of any European nation to be undermined. We all realise that a secure Europe needs a sovereign Ukraine, and a free and sovereign Ukraine needs the solidarity of the West. That is why today I would like to thank President Joe Biden and Prime Minister BVladimir Putin has thrown down the gauntlet not only to Ukraine but to the entire world. That is why today I would like to thank President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in particular.oris Johnson, in particular.

Both of these leaders have stood shoulder to shoulder with Poland – they did not surrender to Putin’s blackmail but defended Western values. NATO has also played a key role in the diplomatic offensive. The West has made clear that it is ready to defend its allies. This unified front standing for freedom and solidarity would not have been possible without the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. It was his personal engagement which helped to raise awareness of what may happen.

The more united we are, the greater our chance of avoiding war. Therefore, regardless of the actions taken by Vladimir Putin in the upcoming days, our solidarity with Ukraine must remain firm. Russia must know that we will not turn a blind eye to its aggression. Every infringement of Ukraine’s sovereignty will be met with very severe Western sanctions.

Finally, let me state that Poland will always stand on the side of Ukraine, for Poland will always stand on the side of freedom!
